[SYNOPSIS]

Jane Perryman views her work as a process of creative documentation, exploring themes of time, place and chance through sequential forms. For Award 2025, Jane drew on the experience of rewilding an acre of agricultural land in Suffolk, fostering native plant life to thrive once again. She has built a library of colour possibilities using distilled plant-based pigments and uses these to colour ceramic pieces.

The resulting ceramics become a chromatic record of biodiversity — that single rewilded acre, surrounded by thousands of acres of industrially managed farmland, rendered visible in the colour of the bowls.

[TRANSCRIPT]

I hope people will make a conscious decision to say, let’s go to Echo Wood today. Perhaps in thirty years’ time, a couple might decide to get married there. I’m hoping it’ll become a resource for the community, and a lovely place to connect with one another.”
